The Ministry of Justice and Human Rights has now sent all election committees in the country posters with instructions for the municipal (council) elections on Saturday, 29 May.

Absentee voting for Local Government Election 29 May 2010 began last Tuesday, 6 April 2010. Voters can cast their ballots in all Icelandic embassies, permanent missions to international organisations, in consular offices or in the offices of honorary consulates, all in all 235 locations in 84 countries.

Local government elections will be held throughout Iceland on Saturday, 29 May 2010. Absentee voting begins on Tuesday, 6 April, and the deadline for submitting lists of candidates to the election committees in each municipality (local government area) is 12 noon on Saturday, 8 May.
